First few days.

Greetings from Tanzania! I made it to Dar Es Salaam safely last night around 10:00 p.m. local time. The flights were pretty long but very enjoyable considering the personal television for the first flight. Strangely, while in Amsterdaam for a layover, I ran into my firend, Dana's, brother and brother's girlfriend. I was so surprised to see them both there, especially considering we had joked about seeing eachother abroad. I guess it just adds to the list of weird, coincidental things that have happened to me throughout my life and during my short experience with the Peace Corps.

We are staying in a fairly nice hostel in Dar, where we have electricity and running water. I had some trouble sleeping last night due to the time change and overall excitement of finally being in TZ, but I know that tonight after our first full day I will be ready for bed. Tomorrow the group is heading to Morogoro for pre-service training (PST) and on Sunday we will meet our host families. I am especially excited for this but also nervous because I still don't know much of the language. However, over the next few days we will be learning more beginning conversational phrases. This should be exciting and make us feel a little more confident.

This is all I really have to say for now because people are waiting in line for the computer. I will have weekly email access for the next 10 weeks so feel free to email me and/or post comments. Also, I will add more blogs and some pictures so that you can see how beautiful and unique Tanzania is. I hope everyone is well and I will talk to you soon!

Glad you made it over safe and sound. I loved your comment about letters being voluntary at this point in your email. Good luck, I know you'll help many people and do great things while there.

*Hope you are well. Let us know if you have any questions or need anything. Have fun translating my Kiswahili - who knows how rusty I have gotten over the past five years.
